潜艇的安全性问题,始终是设计者力图解决的问题。但直到目前,这个问题还没有妥善解决。在水面航行时,潜艇仅在指挥台上有一个出入舱口,进水的危险较水面舰船小;而且由于耐压壳很厚,不存在纵向强度问题;加上潜艇稳性范围大,因此即使在风浪中航行的潜艇危险性也不很大。但由于潜艇的侧影小不引人注目,被其他船碰撞的危险较大。在水下航行时,不但有碰撞危险,还有通海管路进水、及由于操纵的失误导致超深而引起耐压壳破损等危险。当然无论水上或水下都还有战斗破损的可能。
