To compare the efficacy of recombinant hepatitis B (HB) and blood-borne HB vaccines, the authors selected the two vaccines for children aged 0-5 years who were in Okinawa kindergarten (at least 1 HBeAg carrier) in Japan. Recombinant HB vaccine (5 μg) was prepared from yeast expressed antigens and 118 (mean age 2.9 years) children were vaccinated with the recombinant vaccine; 243 children were vaccinated with a blood-borne vaccine (10 μg), all at 0, 1, 6 months Program inoculation 3 doses.
