One of the main applications of gallium arsenide field effect power transistors (GaAs Power FETs) is for use as a satellite communications repeater. A recent report referred to a C-band Class 7 amplifier with an output of 10 watts, a gain of 50 dB, an instantaneous bandwidth of 40 MHz and an efficiency of 33.4%. This article will describe a gallium arsenide FET amplifier suitable for spacecraft environments that has a constant temperature network to improve the environmental performance of the spacecraft.
