Years of constant research into the state of the Baltic Sea have ensured the knowledge necessary to conduct a comprehensive study of the hydrothermal, hydrochemistry and aquatic processes of the waters currently under way. At the same time, people began to attach great importance to the study of mankind’s pollution of the Baltic Sea, which is on the verge of the seven industrialized nations. We know that most of the waste from industrial and agricultural production has been thrown into the Baltic Sea off-shore and accumulated directly on the shore. However, as we have recently identified, there is an inherently different source of pollution in the Baltic Sea whose mechanism of action is different. According to a series of investigations conducted in recent years in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, important conclusions have been drawn: the degree of water pollution in the North Sea is higher than that in the Baltic Sea. The total level of oil and mercury pollution in the North Sea is about 1 to 2 times higher than the Baltic Sea.
