On November 22, 1968, Major Crem L. Hadley, a student at the U.S. Air Force Academy of Spaceflight pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in California, stepped into a Lockheed F-104 Star fighter to begin altitude Climbing high training flights close to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere. For the Air Force Space Research Pilot School, run by renowned test pilot Colonel Charles Yeague, a sharp jump will mark a successful conclusion for the U.S. Air Force’s astronaut training. For Hadley and other students, the ascent climb climbs into a preview of their future space flight.
