James Joyce, a famous Irish novelist and poet in the early twentieth century and one of the founders of postmodern literature, his works and his “stream of consciousness” thoughts have a tremendous impact on the world literature and enjoy the same international reputation as Shakespeare. He is also the inventor of word games. In Joyce’s short story Dubline, he vividly portrayed the living conditions of Irish women from the 19th century to the 20th century through a vivid and detailed description of Dublin women. In this short story collection, women have always been oppressed and have long been considered symbols of oppression by British colonialists. This article analyzes the inevitability of Dublin women from the perspective of women’s lack of voice and at the same time gives the reader a more in-depth understanding of the image of Joyce’s women.
