Preface In Japan and other parts of the world, cultural institutions have a large collection of statues from Shaanxi Province. However, there are few researches on the statues of unearthed statues in Shaanxi Province or Xi’an. In one of the earliest research treatises in Japan, Matsuhara Saburo, “Related Problems of Shexian-style Stone Carving in the Northern Wei Dynasty,” was earlier seen. (Translator’s Note: 1. Pixian is now Fuxian County, Yan’an City, Shaanxi Province; 2. Original title is “鄜 県 様 に て て ”) a text. This article was published in 1954 and included in the “Study of the History of Chinese Buddhist Carvings” published in 1961, and its supplement was incorporated into the 1995 “Chinese Buddhist History of Carvings” ([1]).
