本文选取了文献中记载的黄巾起义之前发生于东部地区的“妖巫”、“妖贼”的史料,对其发生的地域及各自表现出的初步的宗教思想进行了分析,并与后来的黄巾起义所涉及的主要地域及太平道表现出的政治性倾向进行了对比,指出了其地域上的一致性及宗教思想特别是政治倾向上的继承关系,认为太平道政治性格是继承了其前“妖巫”、“妖贼”等先驱者的思想而形成的,“妖巫”、“妖贼”所代表的民间宗教组织,在思想和人员方面为太平道的产生和发展做好了准备。
