Recombinant IL-1α (rIL-1α) significantly enhanced the resistance of mice to Listeria monocytogenes infection. Recombinant γ-galactosidase (rIFN-γ) plays a key role in anti-Listeria. In this study, the authors explored the possibility of immunotherapy combining rIL-1α and rIFN-γ for additive or synergistic use of antimicrobial agents. Results Application of both rIL-1α and rIFNγ at 3 days after infection enhanced antibacterial activity more readily than either single agent, although this still does not account for the synergistic effect between the two cytokines.
