齿侧配合的渐升线花键与矩形花键相比具有强度高、精度高、能自动定心、齿面接触好和载荷分布均匀等许多优点。各国都优先采用具有齿侧配合的渐开线花键连接,在新国标中对配合型式只规定采用齿侧配合。对具有渐开线花键孔的齿轮一般都以该花键孔作为安装基准。因此在这种齿轮加工中,必须以花键孔作为加工齿形和各基准面的基准。各种渐开线花键心轴(包括精车、滚齿、插齿、剃齿、磨和齿轮磨等工序用的)是保证齿圈或基准面能与花键孔中心线同心或垂直的必要工艺装备。至今在工厂生产中一般都还是采用以大径定位的渐开线花键心轴,设计这种心轴时应减薄心轴上的花
