郁金香鳞茎秋季开始萌芽,第二年早春开花,初夏进入休眠,休眠期在鳞茎内形成花芽。由母鳞茎开花,并在基部发育形成1～3个次年能开花的新鳞茎和2～6个小球,而后自身干枯掉。花芽分化的适宜温度为20-25℃,最高不能超过28℃,根系受伤后不能再生,所以绝对不能移栽。郁金香喜腐殖质丰富、疏松肥沃的沙壤土,土壤 pH 值以6.5～7为宜。通常用分球法繁殖。根据这些特性,家庭盆栽可在9月下旬至10月下旬进行。
