Lionel Trilling is a famous 20th-century American social culture and literary critic, writer and professor of literature. As an important member of the ”New York intellectuals“ group, he was once praised by British and American intellectuals and readers as ”cultural conscience“ and as mentor mentor to the younger generation in the United States in the mid-20th century. Trilling was born in 1905 in a Jewish family in Queens, New York, USA, completing his undergraduate, master and doctoral studies successively at Columbia University. Since 1930, Trilling co-authored with Jacques Barzun, a collegiate and history professor, in an important classics discussion course at Columbia University to lead students to explore the relationship between literature, culture and social and civilizational development, which are well received by students. Called ”Colombia."
