1901年出生的袁晓园老人一生颇多传奇,少年时即有奇女子之称。青年时冲破封建家庭樊篱和世俗偏见,赴法国勤工俭学;30年代曾任厦门税务局副局长,成为我国第一位女税务官;40年代曾先后在印度和法国任外交官,为支援国内抗战奔走呼号。后赴美在美国的大学讲学、任教,并任联合国总部中文科秘书等职,至今她还领取联合国的退休金。袁老身在海外,心系故国,她于1985年回国定居,先后担任了第六、七届全国政协委员和民革中央监委会常委等职。袁老下仅精通英语、法语等多国语言,而且钟情于中国传统文化艺
