瓯海区体育事业发展局于2009年创建为浙江省体育强区。近年来,进一步实施全民健身工程。不断提高竞技体育水平,加快发展体育产业,努力完善基础设施建设。相继建成了大罗山国家级登山健身步道、区体育中心和区龙舟基地。创成省级体育强镇9个。创建省级运功休闲基地。举办了中美篮球对抗赛、全国山地户外运动锦标赛、“华东八大城市”射击比赛、2012年浙江省青少年田径锦标赛、2013年浙江省温州南拳公开赛等大型赛事。进一步扩大了瓯海体育工作的影响力。
