由已有文献可知,旧拱桥承载能力的确定,用代数法分析不是一件易事;而Fuller图解分析法既耗费时间,又要求很高的制图质量,而且该法在考虑不规则荷载时,因荷载的最不利位置不确定,分析工作非常冗长。更重要的是,以上方法都只是对已知荷载进行处理,而评定的目的在于在一定限制条件下确定拱圈的未知容许载重。所有这些因素,促进了一种简便的拱桥容许载重评定法——WR法的研究。
