舌存齿亡——何必拿长度比硬度

老子在老师常枞弥留之际向他讨教对生命的感悟。老师张开嘴让老子看,然后问:“我的舌头还在吗?”“还在。”“我的牙齿还在吗?”“没了。”于是老子明白了:舌存而齿亡。夫舌之存也,岂非以其柔耶。齿之亡也,岂非以其刚耶。在达尔文研究出《进化论》以前的许多年,中国古代的哲人们已经总结出了一套以柔克刚、强亡弱存的生存哲理。常枞拿牙齿和舌头做的这个比喻很形象,也有趣,只是比的根本不是同一回事。牙齿和舌头,各有各的用途,长度与硬度,各有各的标准。殊不知,人活着,的确 Lao Tzu consulted with him about life’s sentiment when he often dwells on the teacher.
