2004年10月,应英国斯塔福郡大学邀请,山东工艺美术学院院长潘鲁生教授率团在英国进行了为期七天的访问。潘鲁生院长一行先后考察了英国斯塔福郡大学、出席了英国“创新网络联会”学术论坛、拜访了著名人类学家罗伯特·雷顿教授,与英国斯塔福郡大学建立友好合作学校并签署了合作协议,就联合建立设计管理研究中心等事项达成一致,山东工艺美院民艺学科与国际传统手工技术保护与研究机构合作事宜也取得了积极成果。在英国期间,潘鲁生院长一行还顺访了爱丁堡艺术学院、剑桥大学、英国皇家艺术学院和萨例理工学院,就英国的教育教学模式、设计艺术教育现状以及留学生的学习生活状态等问题与当地中国留学生们进行了交流。山东工艺美术学院非常重视与国外艺术院校的交流与合作,逐步建立了广泛而扎实的国际联系网络。

Shandong Institute of Arts and Crafts attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with foreign art schools, and gradually established a broad and solid international contact network.
