The famous physicist Albert Einstein once said, “Interest is the best teacher.” The process of learning a foreign language is rather dull and boring. Many students often have a postive attitude towards English when they start learning it, but shortly after that they tend to become less confident and discouraged. It is apparent that interest is essential to the task of learning a foreign language. Students, in fact, are always willing to endure hardship to learn what interests them most, which has been proved again and again in teaching practice. So it is quite necessary for an English teacher to foster students’ interest in English and regard this job as a permanent task of top priority.

However, if the teacher has the ability to create a pleasant class atmosphere and an interesting language environment for the students, it will help them acquire the maximum quality of up-to-date information. In addition,it will make much difference whether a teacher has a right attitude towards students. “Harmony” is the prerequisite of “pleasure”, while a good relationship between the teacher and the students is the foundation of “harmony”. A friendly tone, a cordinal expression, encouraging remarks, even a smile and a gesture can make the students feel much concern, respect, understanding and expectation from the teacher.
2.Choosing the best teaching method Strengthening the teaching temperament.
There exisits no absolutely excellent teaching method in the world, but there must be a relative method that conforms to the objective laws of teaching and special teaching situations. When a teaching target has been determined, the teacher should try to complete the task using the best method. During the teaching procedure, the teacher is expected to pay close attention to how his students react and try to draw their attention. If the students are interested in what is taught, they will surely concentrate on the lecture and learn in an active matter. So the teacher has to be fluent and concise in the English language when giving lectures. He or she must be able to express their ideas and emotions with the aid of lively and humorous facial expressions. Meanwhile, he or she is good at improving the students’ listening and speaking abilities by using the modern teaching aids such as video tapes and projector, etc. Besides, the teacher should attempt to improve his students’ communication skills by seizing the chances of class activities such as telling stories, playing games and acting out dialogues. From this we conclude that harmonious class atmosphere and practical teaching methods can be of great benefit in promoting the students’ interest. The students have a strong desire and great motivation to learn and as a consequence, their grades will be greatly improved.

Remember that timely praise from the teacher will definitely help to push them to a higher level in their career, no matter what small progress the students make. Once the students possess an awareness of accomplishment, they shall show greater interest in their language study.
In general, one can never do anything well if he loses interest in it. It is the same case with English learning, therefore, the reinforcement of students’ learning interest should always run through the whole teaching process. Only in this way can we hope to learn the English language efficiently and achieve our teaching goals successfully.
