连云港市地处华北地台与扬子准地台之间的秦岭-大别造山带东延部分,其非金属矿产资源较丰富,特色明显。据统计,截止到2000年,全市共发现非金属矿产32种。非金属矿产在全市矿产资源中占绝对优势。其中水晶、蛇纹石、磷、云母、蛭石、大理岩、石榴红宝石和榴辉岩系列矿产(金红石、绿辉石、石榴子石)储量居全省第一;蓝晶石、硅石资源总量居全省第二;花岗石、瓷石、玄武岩和建筑用砂具有区域优势。
