房山的汉白玉,主要产自大石窝镇石窝村、高庄、辛庄等村。《房山县志》记载:“大石窝在房山西南六十里黄龙山下,前产青白石,后产白玉石,小者数丈,大者数十丈,宫殿建筑多采于此。”这里的大理石质地精良,储量丰富,品种繁多,有十三弦(汉白玉、明柳、砖碴、芝麻花、青白石、艾叶青、螺丝转、黄大石、黑大石、大六面等13个品种)之说。其特点是细腻、柔软、透明、坚而不脆、白而不骄、耐风化,是用于雕刻的上等石材。
