在茂名市,提起邓刚的名字,无论是在职干部,抑或离退休老同志,都异口同声:“他是一个永远闲不住的人”。邓刚1929年出生,1947年参加革命,同年入党,在半个多世纪的革命生涯中,以其性格直爽、作风正派、廉洁奉公,雷厉风行而驰名遐迩。的确,他担任茂名市副市长、人大副主任期间是这样,退出领导岗位后仍然是这样。邓刚牢牢记住为共产主义奋斗终身的誓言和全心全意为人民服务的宗旨。1993年春,市人大换届后,邓刚从领导岗位退下来。同年10月,市老促会换届,邓刚继续被选为副理事长(后任常务理事长)。从此,他的大部分精力,都投入了革命老区工作中去。
