Economy: Re-growth after 10 years of decline Malawi is a small landlocked country with a dense population in southeastern Africa. Until 1979, in the first 15 years of attaining independence, the average annual growth rate of gross domestic product reached 6%. This result comes from the export-led growth strategy of the agro-processing industry which relies on large-scale agriculture and uses foreign investment and management technologies.
