在发达国家的家庭里,父母普遍重视从小培养孩子的自理能力和自强精神。之所以如此,是因为发达的市场经济要求社会成员必须具备这种能力和精神。 在美国,家庭教育是以培养孩子富有开拓精神、能够成为一个自食其力的人为出发点的。父母从孩子小时候就让他们认识劳动的价值,让孩子自己动手修理、装配玩具、工具、用具等,到外边参加劳动。即使是富家子弟,也要自谋生路。美国的中学生有句口号:“要花钱自己挣!”农民家庭要孩子分担家里的割草、粉刷房屋、简单木工修理等
