China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC), as the No. 1 producer and supplier of crude oil and natural gas as well as the No. 1 producer and supplier of petro- leum smelting and chemical products, has a wide business range covering prospect for petro- leum and natural gas, petroleum smelting and chemical production, pipe transmission, sales of smelt- ing and chemical products of petro- leum and natural gas, service of pe- troleum project techniques, petro- leum machinery processing and manufacturing, petroleum trade and so on. It has taken a leading role in the production and processing of China’s petroleum and natural gas, as well as the market. 2005 is the last year of China’s No. 10 Five-year Plan. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games are approaching. The three concepts advocated by the central govern- ment including Thrift Economy, Cir- culating Economy and Sustainable Economy have taken roots of the hearts of the Chinese people. What opportunities and challenges will China’s petroleum industry face up in the new situation? What kind of strategy will China’s petroleum in- dustry boost to meet the new eco- nomic situation?
