Brown pigment stones differ not only in their composition but also in their etiology from cholesterol and melanin stones; analyzing the composition of brown pigment stones may provide clues to the mechanism of stone formation. The authors used gas-liquid chromatography analysis of bile acid content of brown pigment, and compared with bile. Gallstone specimens studied are all gallstones. 28 cases of brown pigment stones, 10 cases of cholesterol stones, 5 cases of melanin stones. Gallbladder bile in the abdomen by the puncture to attract access to the control group of bile specimens in patients with gastric cancer or colon surgery with fine needle aspiration obtained as aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Gallstone is dried, ground, weighed, and extracted with a mixture of dimethylsulfoxy-acetone-hydrochloric acid. The eluent was concentrated with diethylamine hydroxypropyl Sepharose LH-20 column chromatography, the bile acids were divided into free, sweet
