Objective: To investigate the relationship between MICA exon 5 polymorphism and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) in Shenzhen. Methods: Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and PAGE silver staining were used in 21 cases of LADA, 28 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and 31 normal persons (NC) Three groups of subjects compared MICA exon 5 polymorphism. Results: The frequency of A5.1 allele in LADA patients was significantly higher than that in healthy controls (35.7% vs.17.7%, 2.89, P <0.05). The frequency of MICA alleles in type 2 diabetes patients was not significantly different from that in normal controls (P> 0.05). Conclusion: MICA5.1 allele is associated with susceptibility to LADA in Shenzhen.
