一九八一年十二月,中国工程通信研究院和在京有关单位与英国莱克(Racal)公司密码专家海伦·贝克(Henry·Beker)就数字密码技术进行了座谈。海伦·贝克,一九五二年出生,曾获数学博士学位,在伦敦大学担任过讲师,现带有攻读博士学位的研究生二名。1977年加入英国莱克公司,从事密码研究工作,曾在一些杂志上发表过有关密码的文章。并为该公司设计了一些密码机,及其基本组成芯片——RDC-17。海伦·贝克这次来京座谈的主要问题如下:
In December 1981, China Academy of Engineering Communications and the Beijing authorities conducted a discussion on digital cryptography with Henry Beker, a password expert at Racal in the United Kingdom. Born in 1952, Helen Baker has a Ph.D. in mathematics, a lecturer at the University of London and two graduate students studying for a doctorate. In 1977 joined the United Kingdom Lake company, engaged in password research, has published in some magazines about the password article. And for the company designed some ciphers, and its basic components chip - RDC-17. The main issues for Helen Baker’s current visit to Beijing are as follows:
