From January 1 to January 1927, the working class and people of all walks of life held a celebration of the victory of the Kuomintang government in moving the capital to Wuhan and the Northern Expedition. After the General Assembly on January 3, each group walked into the streets. At 2 p.m., the propaganda team of the Central Military and Political Schools gave a speech to the masses in the square in front of Hankou Jianghan Customs. At this time, the British imperialist concession authorities mobilized large numbers of sailors from the warships on the Yangtze River to shore, expelling propaganda teams and the masses, and indiscriminately punishing crowds with bayonets. One seafarer was stabbed dead on the spot, of whom 5 were seriously injured and 30 were slightly injured; resulting in the “January 3” massacre.
