十一、妇女想做什么? 她们需要自由、捎除对她们的歧视及自身发展的机会等等,在我们依次接受她们这些方面的要求和进一步探索她们的需要之前,大量相反的意见常常被提出。有一种倾向认为:在我们的社会中,妇女没有感受到什么困难,也没有什么烦扰,她们被她们的丈夫保护着;她们有家,可满足她们对庇护和救助的需要。她们不是被号召走出家庭参加劳动,而是无拘无束地统治她们的“家庭帝国”。如是这样,妇女们是幸福的。提出关于妇女权利的质疑或者争论是投有必要的,妇女因此而陷入不可避免的冲突及苦恼中,这种争论是毫无价值的。事实上,这一争论没有基础且不能持续,绝大多数妇女事实上是不愿意处于如上所描绘的那种特殊状况的,这违反她们的本意。自从人类文明开始以来,劳动阶级中的妇女就一直工作着,下层阶级中的妇女要不断努力工作,以勉强维持生计。在田野、森林、茶叶及咖啡种植场和市场里,她们在非常恶劣的条件下从事着体力劳动。除此之外,在家中还要工作,以满足她们家庭成员对食物,衣服的需求。近来,她们的状况进一步恶化,她们在村舍、中、小工厂和矿山这些环境艰苦的地方努力工作,用她们的工资帮助家庭平衡预算。在私营部门中,她们也要通过做一些工作来履行她们对家庭的义务。由于工业和城市生活的发
What do women want to do? They need freedom, take away discrimination against them and their own opportunities for development, and so on. Before we can accept their requests in this respect and further explore their needs, many contrary opinions are often raised . There is a tendency to think that women in our society feel no difficulty and no trouble whatsoever; they are protected by their husbands; they have a home that meets their needs for asylum and relief. Instead of being called out of their families to join the workforce, they are free to rule their “family empire.” If so, women are happy. It is worthless to argue that it is necessary to raise questions or arguments about the rights of women and that women are thus caught up in inevitable conflicts and distresses. In fact, this debate is untenable and unsustainable. The overwhelming majority of women are in fact unwilling to be in the special situation as depicted above, which violates their original intention. Since the beginning of human civilization, women in the working class have been working, while women in the lower classes have to work hard to maintain their livelihood. In fields, forests, tea and coffee plantations and markets, they perform manual work under very harsh conditions. In addition, work needs to be done at home to meet the needs of their family members for food and clothing. Recently, their situation has deteriorated further. They work hard in such harsh environments as cottages, medium and small factories and mines, and use their wages to help families balance their budgets.
