中国现代文学肇始于五四时期,1930年出版的密尔斯的《中国当代短篇小说选》是英语世界最早的中国现代小说英译小说选集。目前中国现代小说英译研究虽然取得了一些成绩,但多数研究仍局限于个别译者或译本的案例研究,缺乏对中国现代小说英译的历史性宏观描写研究。本文对20世纪上半期英语世界出版的中国现代小说英译的整体状况进行了考察,探讨了这一阶段中国现代小说在英美两国的翻译、传播状况及特点。
Chinese modern literature began in the May 4th period. The 1930 publication of “Modern Chinese Short Story Selection” by Mill was the first selection of English translation novels of modern Chinese novels in English-speaking world. At present, although some achievements have been made in the study of English translation of modern Chinese novels, most of the researches are still limited to the case studies of individual translators or versions, and lack of a historical macroscopic description of the translation of Chinese modern novels. This article examines the overall status of English translation of modern Chinese novels published in English in the first half of the 20th century and discusses the translation and dissemination of modern Chinese novels in the United States and the United States during this period.
