In order to accelerate the layout and planning of solar energy business in mainland China, AU Optronics announced that it will build the second phase of its solar module plant in Tianjin Binhai New Area and hold a groundbreaking ceremony on October 13. As the first solar energy production base in mainland China, AUO will produce high-performance solar module products that are expected to be completed and installed by the end of 2011 and will have a total production capacity of 1GW in the future.
