学好英语无捷径学习英语的热潮在中国已经持续多年,在当今改革开放进一步深入的情况下,这种势头更是有增无减。事实上很难估计目前全国一共有多少人在学英语。不管这些人在什么层次上学英语,以什么方式学英语,或是为了什么目的在学英语,但有一点是可以肯定的,那就是人人都想在最短的时间里学好英语,达到自己的目的。看到我这篇短文的题目,有些人一定会感到十分失望。我受《英语学习》编辑部之托写这篇短文的目的当然不是想让读者感到失望、失去信心。但就我自己数十年学习英语的感受而言(我现在还在学习英语),我确实体会到学好英语无捷径。如果有捷径可走的话,那我早该走到尽头了。急功近利是当今一不良心态,很多人都想在尽可能短的时间里,以最小的代价换取最大的收益和回报。这种心态在不少英语学习者中同样有所反映。为迎合这种心态,社会上便出现了种种
Learning English without Shortcuts The upsurge of learning English has been going on in China for many years. Under the current situation of further reform and opening up, the momentum is on the rise. In fact, it is hard to estimate how many people in the country are currently learning English. Regardless of the level at which these people learn English, how they learn English, or for what purpose they are learning English, one thing is certain: everyone wants to learn English well in the shortest possible time and reach his goal. Some people will feel very disappointed to see the title of my essay. The purpose of this essay, which I commissioned by the editorial office of “English Learning”, is certainly not to disappoint readers and lose confidence. But in my own experience of learning English for decades (and I’m still learning English now), I do realize there is no easy way to learn English well. If there is a shortcut, then I should have come to an end. Quick success is a bad attitude today, many people want in the shortest possible time, with the least price in exchange for maximum benefits and returns.
