60年前,毛泽东、朱德、周恩来、刘少奇等老一辈无产阶级革命家在闽西从事伟大的革命实践,领导创建了以长汀为中心的福建省苏区,从而把我省党的建设、地方政权建设和革命武装斗争推向了新的阶段,在我党和我国革命史上写下了光辉的一页。在那峥嵘岁月,闽西苏区人民“跟着毛委员,革命勇向前”,前仆后继、无私无畏,为发展和巩固中央革命根据地,为人民的解放事业,做出了巨大的牺牲和贡献。红军主力北上长征后,闽西人民在党的领导下,坚持艰苦卓绝的斗争,直至新中国建立,20年红旗不倒。当年闽西儿女参加工农红军的达10万之众。解放后我区被评定为革命烈士的有23600余人。占全省烈士总数的一半多。新中国成立后,特别是在党的十一届三中全会以来,闽西老区人民充分地发挥了社会主义的积极性和创造性,为祖国的社会主义革命和建设事业做出了新的贡献。
