这首词作于南宋亡国前后,面对山河沦陷,今昔巨变,词人借咏新月寄托亡国哀思。月上柳梢,淡淡的月色穿过花丛,闺中之人顿时想起远行人,但此刻即便拜月,又怎能真正团圆?暗指山河破碎已成定局。那一弯哀婉的新月真像美人不及画完的眉,大概嫦娥也在感伤人间的离别!月盈月亏,人事代谢,从古至今,何尝停滞?回想前朝帝王于太液池边赏月,当时何其盛,如今何其衰!遭逢末代,纵逢月圆,也只会令人更加怅惘吧!
