Five consecutive articles on data communications by Alan J. Weissberger are published in Electronic Design, Volume 27, Nos. 9, 10, 12, 15 and 17, respectively. The first one introduces the characteristics of communication channels and transmission equipment. The second one focuses on the transformation of digital information transmission in analog channels and the role of hardware such as mediators and data devices to accomplish such transformation. The third chapter describes the functions of data terminals And data communications equipment interface between the interface, including receiver / transmitter circuits (especially large scale integrated circuit chip), synchronization and management of lines and equipment to connect a variety of standards and regulations; the fourth describes the data link Control, especially large-scale integrated link control slices, and their impact on the distributed processing network structure; and the fifth one outlines some of the planned and implemented public and private data networks.
