一提起茶马古道,人们自然会联想到云南、四川到西藏之间的古代交通和贸易路线,这个没有错,但是却并不完善。事实上,茶马贸易在我国古代历史上有着更宽广的地域空间和更深刻的社会和文化内涵,不仅内地和西藏之间存在茶马贸易,内地与今新疆地区、蒙古高原地区等,都存在着茶马贸易,而且在唐朝时期,内地和回纥之间的茶马贸易远比和西藏地方兴盛。中原农业地区犁田耕地需要马,装备骑兵亦需要马,“马资于国用甚大”
