本文采用历时比较、比对分析的方法阐述韦氏英语辞典的发展过程和特点,以十九世纪和二十世纪两部具有代表性的韦氏英语辞典为例进行分析对比,探讨韦氏英语辞典从编纂原则和编纂理念到选词、释义、语用标注等方面的发展与创新。美国辞典编纂家诺亚·韦伯斯特(Noah Webster)于1828年出版了两卷本《美国英语词典》。该词典从诞生至今不断地修订、再版、完善、推陈出新,目前已发展成为庞大的韦氏辞典家族。
This article uses diachronic comparison and comparative analysis to expound the development process and characteristics of Webster’s English Dictionary. By comparing and analyzing two representative Webster’s English dictionaries from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, this paper discusses the Webster’s English Dictionary From the principles of compilation and compilation of ideas to the choice of words, paraphrase, pragmatic labeling and other aspects of development and innovation. American Dictionary Compiler Noah Webster published two volumes of this American English Dictionary in 1828. The dictionary has been constantly revised, reprinted, perfected and innovated since it was born, and has now developed into a huge Webster dictionary family.
