Ji Zenghe, board chairman of The Palace, and husband of Taiwanese actress Meng Guangmei, was sued by his former wife Ms. Zhang, who claimed half of his assets. The trial began on September 11 but both the plaintiff and defendant were not present. Ms. Zhang’s lawyer Liu Zhaoyan blamed Ji Zenghe for hiding the financial situation while divorcing and excluding eight of his companies from the assets. He requested the court to revaluate the assets of 10 companies, including The Palace.
Liu Zhaoyan submitted ten groups of evidences to show that Ji Zenghe held stakes of these ten companies and eight of them were not mentioned in the divorce contract and following supplementary agreements. According to Liu Zhaoyan, Ms. Zhang did not know the existence of these eight companies when signing the contracts. So far as he knew, two of the companies have five property projects valuing at least 9 billion yuan. Then, Ms. Zhang was given about 200 million yuan when divorcing, which was unfair for her.
Two lawyers on behalf of Ji Zenghe said that the assets of the eight companies were corporate assets. In addition, the divorce happened two years ago and Ms. Zhang’s complaint was beyond the one-year term stipulated by the law. The two parties singed the assets partition agreement out of their own will and Ms. Zhang had a lawyer by her at that time. Therefore there were no frauds or threats. Now she violated the credit rule for suing. Ji Zenghe required the court to reject the request of Ms. Zhang and will not settle it down through intermeidatation.
