Researchers from the Regional Primate Research Center in Oregon recently wrote in the journal Nature Medicine that genes in infertile men may have defects. Artificial insemination (intracytoplasmic sperm injection, ICSI for short) may cause genetic defects. The article said they applied image technology to directly observe the ICSI rhesus insemination process and found abnormal zygotes. This may indicate that the ICSI technology itself harms the chromosomes carrying the genes and that the chromosomes are impaired, which may lead to genetic defects such as mental retardation.
