Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is a new model of tumor angiogenesis put forward in recent years, completely different from the classic model of tumor angiogenesis. It is characterized by the absence of vascular endothelial lining in the lumen, the tumor cells mimicking the angiogenesis of the body and forming tumor cell cord-like tubing through self-deformation and extracellular matrix remodeling, and the blood flows in such tubing. The outer circumference of the pipeline is a basement membrane composed of PAS positive substances of different thicknesses and communicates with the host blood vessel so that the tumor cells can obtain blood supply and obtain nutrients to meet the needs of their growth, invasion and metastasis. This theory poses a challenge to the classical theory of endothelium-dependent angiogenesis, which is widely accepted by domestic and foreign scholars. This article reviews the characteristics, mechanism of angiogenesis mimicry, the significance of tumor therapy and the research progress in the tumor.
