China has ratified the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and is committed to implementing a tobacco control program to counter the numerous unhealthy and economic consequences of tobacco use. Doctors need to play a leading role in this fight as countries that implement tough tobacco control policies, such as other countries, such as Australia. At present, China’s problems include the doctors’ own smoking status and their underestimation of the impact on patients, which means their potential positive effects are far from being realized. Doctors are duty-bound in tobacco control. Start with behaviors and practices such as their own quitting. If the doctor is a smoker, stop smoking and instruct patients and their families not to smoke. Advocate hospitals and medical institutions smoke-free, but also the doctor’s primary task. As a medical center where people try to improve their health status and receive disease treatment, smoking is completely unreasonable. It is also the responsibility of physicians to work for agencies and professional bodies representing doctors to provide doctors with information, training and support that helps to control their own and patient tobacco use.
