印度是个多民族的国家,每个民族都有各自的婚姻习俗。这里只谈最普遍、最典型的,即印度教徒的婚姻习俗。 印度古代典籍中有一本《摩奴法论》,其中写道:印度教徒的4个种姓有8种婚姻方式,它们是“梵式、天神式、仙人式、生主式、阿修罗式、乾达婆式、罗刹式和第八种、最低贱的毕舍遮式”。这8种婚姻方式分别是什么意思呢?书中说:“亲自把一位德才兼备的男子邀请来,先为他俩换装和献礼,然后把女儿嫁给他,这叫做梵式。
