Vaginal bleeding is an important issue in the study of acceptability of contraceptive methods. The statistical method of the menstrual record is a topic that many clinicians, statistics and computer experts have carefully studied and discussed in recent years. This article summarizes the basic points of the Reference Period method and questions that remain to be explored. The reference period approach avoids the artificial rules and definitions based on the menstrual cycle; can be more objectively described and analyzed.
