砂口各部位的主要尺寸可用下述符号表示(参看附图):d_3=((4ab)/π)~(1/2)——砂口眼的当量直径(式中a和b分别为砂口眼的高度和宽度);h_1——由主沟底部与砂口大闸前壁的交点到放渣孔的距离;h_2——由小井底部与砂口大闸后壁的交点到主砂坝上缘的距离;h_3——由主沟底部与砂口大闸前壁的交点到下渣沟底部的距离;h_4——由小井底部与砂口大闸后壁的交点到铁口中心线的距离。下渣带走的铁损失以及砂口过渣都与上述各部位的尺寸大小及其比例相关。
