Objective To estimate the incidence of dry eye 5a and study its association with risk factors. Methods The BeaverDam, Wis population aged 43-84 years (n = 5924) was examined in 1988-1990 (n = 4926), 1993-1995 (n = 3722), and 1998-2000 (n = 2962) . In 1993-1995, when dry eye data were collected for the first time, and in 1998-2000, 2,783 individuals participated in the study and 44 were interviewed. Of these, 2802 provide a history of dry eye. The incidence population included 2414 individuals who did not provide a history of dry eye during 1993-1995. Risk factors were identified in 1993-1995, including demographics, medical history, cardiovascular risk factors, medication history, and lifestyle. Results During the period of 5a examined, out of 2414 individuals, 322 had a history of dry eye disease with a rate of 13.3% (95% CI, 12.0% -14.7%). The incidence was significantly associated with age (P <0.001). After adjustment for age, those with a history of allergies or diabetes who had weakened self-health were more likely to have antihistamines or diuretics (P <0.05). The incidence of the older population was lower with ACE inhibitors or alcohol consumption (P <0.05). Morbidity and sex, blood pressure, hypertension, plasma total or high-density ester protein cholesterol, body mass index, arthritis, gout, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, history of thyroid disease, smoking, caffeine, vitamins, anti-anxiety Drugs, antidepressants, calcium antagonists, or the history of cholinesterase inhibitors and so no significant correlation. Conclusion The incidence of dry eye is high, but there are few relevant risk factors. Certain medications (such as diuretics and antihistamines) are high risk factors?
