The term abortion has been used in obstetrics for more than one hundred years and is still widely used in early pregnancy failure. With the evaluation of early pregnancy by ultrasound, its definition (fetal death ≥ 8 weeks still not discharged) is difficult to perfect. The authors propose to replace the following names: early pregnancy fetal death, intrauterine pregnancy and non-embryo pregnancy. In 1847, Oldham founded the name “missed labor” to describe the unexplained loss of mid-pregnancy egg in more than 28 weeks of gestation. In 1878, Duncun introduced the term expired abortion to describe a situation similar to this before the 28th week of gestation.
