明清时期,北京建有众多的碧霞元君庙,其中最著名的五座庙号称“五顶”。大概在明代就已有“五顶”之说。《帝京景物略》卷三“弘仁桥”条载:京城的元君庙,“麦庄桥,曰西顶;草桥,曰中顶;东直门外,曰东顶;安定门外,曰北顶。盛则莫弘仁桥若,岂其地气耶!”其中乾隆年间之后,南顶之称由弘仁桥元君庙转移到大红门外元君庙。北京的“五顶”环列于京城,既是过去许多北京人寄托精神信仰之所,又是民俗活动之地,同时也是商品交易之处。因此,“五顶”在明清及近代北京人的生活中扮演着十分重要的角色,是北京传统文化的重要载体之一。

Therefore, “Five Tops ” plays a very important role in the life of Peking Man in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is one of the important carriers of Beijing’s traditional culture.
