时势造英雄,是新兴的信息产业造就了张树新,张树新和她所创办的瀛海威因得风气之先而一度成为明星。英雄又反过来造就时势,张树新不但在中国把“信息高速公路”从神话演绎为生活的现实,并且引入了网络服务业,创立了中国在这个行业的第一品牌。曾几何时,瀛海威和张树新似乎是同义语,或者互为代名词。在许多人眼里,张树新不能没有瀛海威,瀛海威也不能没有张树新。有人说,张树新是瀛海威的灵魂;有人说,瀛海威是张树新的生命。
