NASA has begun a formal study of the lunar base, the theme of an early space program for the development of the 21st century. According to a spokesman for the agency, the agency's Johnson Space Center recently signed a one-year commissioned research contract with two space-based companies, including Rocky Space Co., to study various issues related to the lunar base with a total research funding of 1.1 million Dollars. Although the Space and Aviation Authority has not yet submitted a draft plan, the report of the Space Commission nominated by President Reagan to the President in May last year also emphasizes the importance of implementing the plan. The targets for space development set out in the report of the Commission in the early 21st century are: the establishment of the Colony by 2005 and the establishment of a Mars Colony by 2015.
