On March 17， Shanghai Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on its website that Dai Haibo， Deputy Secretary-general of Shanghai Municipla Government， is under investigation for suspected serious law and discipline violation.
Dai Haibo use to serve as Deputy Executive Director of the Regulatory Commission and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Shanghai Free Trade Zone pilot. Last September， when the Shanghai FTZ was celebrating its first birthday， Dai Haibo was removed from the office of the FTZ and has been acting only as Deputy Secretary-general of Shanghai Municipal Government since then. The dismissal caused a lot of speculation and discussion. Some local officials of Shanghai said it was very unusual that Dai Haibo got deposed at the FTZ’s first anniversay， since “nobody knows better about the FTZ than him”.
On the other hand， Dai Haibo’s ex-wife has been reporting on him for economic crime and adultery to authorities for years. During investigations authorities found out Dai Haibo owned several house properties， which does not constitute an economic crime， but his career prospect still gets seriously undermined.
“With his ability and qualifications， he could be the Deputy Mayor of Shanghai，” says a informant.
